ezBates is the user-friendly, inexpensive computer software that replaces your Bates Stamp automatic page numbering machine and does much more.
ezBates consecutively numbers your exhibits and documents more quickly and easily than a Bates Stamp with professional-looking results. Just stack the pages of your documents in a printer used by your computer, start ezBates, fill in the data fields to specify the text and the range of page numbers to be printed, click the Print Next or Print All button, then click the Print button in the pop-up Select Printer window that appears. That's all there is to it. Your text and page numbers will be printed on your documents in consecutive order at the bottom right side of each page in bold, 12 point Arial font.
Additional features are easy to select.
You can automatically print the word "Page" and/or leading zeros immediately in front of your page numbers by checking the boxes for these options. See Print "Page" In Front Of Page Number, Leading Zeros.
Click the Change Font button to replace the bold, 12 point Arial font with any other font installed on your computer. A font selection window will appear that allows you to choose a different font, font style, color, and/or font size. See Change Font.
You can change the number of inches from the top of the page where the text and page numbers are printed by replacing the value in the Vertical Position data field. See Vertical Position. You can also change the horizontal position on the page where the text and page numbers are printed. There are seven different horizontal location choices for both the text field and the page number. See Horizontal Position. The location of the text field can either be in front of or behind the location of the number field. If you choose the same horizontal location for the text field as for the page number, the text field and page number will be combined into a single field and the text will be printed in front of the page number at this horizontal location. After you have selected a horizontal position print location for your text field and/or for your page numbers, you can increment this position to the left or to the right by clicking - or + in the increment box. Each increment is one-tenth of an inch. When the text and page number are at different locations, the text location and the page number location can be incremented separately.
Finally, instead of using the printer that your computer normally uses, the pop-up Select Printer window lets you use any printer that is directly connected to your computer or any printer that is one of your network connections.
If your exhibit or document won't fit in your printer or if you need to correct an exhibit or document that was accidentally
misnumbered, you can print the text field and page numbers on labels instead of directly on your pages. The labels can be
either 1/2" by 1-3/4" or 1" by 2-5/8".
Another version of this software, ezBates Special Edition, has a different set of features. It is available at www.ezbates.biz. ezBates Special Edition can print sequences of letters as well as sequences of numbers on your documents and exhibits. You can also print sequences of odd numbers or even numbers as an alternative to printing numbers in consecutive order. You can enter text fields to be appended both before and after the sequentially-printed numbers or letters. Users with double-sided printers can automatically print text and page numbers at the same horizontal distance from the outside edge of both the front and back of their pages.

Only three steps are needed to install ezBates on your computer and add it to All Programs in your Start menu. First,
go to www.ezbates.biz
and purchase and download a .zip file containing a licensed version of the program. This .zip file has the name
ezbates.zip. Second, extract the files and folder from the .zip file to a folder on your computer. Finally, run the
Setup.Exe program that you extracted from the .zip file to the folder on your computer.
To uninstall ezBates from your computer, open Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs, select ezBates, and select Change/Remove.

When you click Print Next in ezBates and a paper size is selected (either 8 - 1/2 by 11 or 8 - 1/2 by 14), the Select Printer window will pop up. The printer you normally use is the default selection. You can select any other printer that is directly connected to your computer or that is one of your network connections. When you click Print in the Select Printer window, the text in the text field and the number in the Beginning Page Number data field is printed on a single page in the printer that you selected. After the print operation is finished, the number in the Beginning Page Number data field is automatically incremented so that when you click Print Next again, the next number in order will be printed on the next page in your printer.
When you click Print Next and a label size rather than a paper size is selected, ezBates will open a window displaying a page that replicates
the page of labels for the selected label size, except that the labels in the window are numbered. The number in the Start Printing at Label
Number data field is the number of the label upon which your first page number will be printed. You may change the label number in this data
field by clicking on a label with a different number. After you select the label number on which the text and page number are to be printed
and click Print, the Select Printer window will pop up. Again, the printer you normally use is automatically selected as the default. You
can select any other printer that is directly connected to your computer or that is one of your network connections.
The text field is always printed in front of the page number when you are
printing on labels. After the print operation
is finished, the number in the Beginning Page Number data field is automatically incremented so that when you click Print Next again, the next
number in order will be printed on the next label. However, the page of labels will be ejected from the printer after the Print Next operation
is finished. In order to resume printing on the next label on that same page of labels, you must load the page of labels back into the printer.

Print All is like Print Next except when you click Print in the Select Printer window, each consecutive number in the range from Beginning Page Number
to Ending Page Number is printed on separate pages or labels. After the print operation is complete, the ezBates Beginning Page Number and the
ezBates Ending Page Number are automatically set to the next number in order after the last number that was printed. If you are printing labels,
the range of numbers from Beginning Page Number to Ending Page Number and the text
field will be printed on the labels row-by-row in consecutive
order from Beginning Page Number to Ending Page Number. The last page of labels will be ejected from the printer after the print operation is
finished. In order to resume printing another number or range of numbers on that same page of labels, you must load that page of labels back
into the printer.

Paper trays in some printers feed pages into the printer so that the page side facing up in the printer is the page side that is printed. To
print a range of page numbers on a stack of documents in a face-up paper tray, enter the lowest page number in the Beginning Page Number data field
and the highest page number in the Ending Page Number data field. Click Print All, then click Print in the Select Printer window. Page
numbers will be printed in increasing order starting with the page at the top of your stack until all numbers in the range of numbers from Beginning
Page Number to Ending Page Number have been printed.

Some printers only have paper trays that feed pages into the printer so that the page side facing down in the printer is the page side that is printed. Using a face-down paper tray with ezBates is slightly more complicated than using a face-up paper tray. There are three ways to print a range of page numbers on a stack of documents in a face-down paper tray:
1. Order the stack of documents so that the document to have the lowest page number is on the bottom of the stack and the document to have the highest page number is on the top of the stack. Enter the lowest page number in the Beginning Page Number data field and the highest page number in the Ending Page Number data field. Click Print All, then find and select the option in the pop-up Select Printer window that reverses the order of page number printing. When you click Print in the Select Printer window, page numbers will be printed in decreasing order starting with the page at the top of your stack until all numbers in the range of numbers from Ending Page Number to Beginning Page Number have been printed.
2. Order the stack of documents so that the document to have the lowest page number is on the bottom of the stack and the document to have the highest page number is on the top of the stack, then enter the highest page number in the Beginning Page Number data field and the lowest page number in the Ending Page Number data field. Click Print All, then click Print in the Select Printer window. Page numbers will be printed in decreasing order starting with the page at the top of your stack until all numbers in the range of numbers from Beginning Page Number to Ending Page Number have been printed.
3. Reverse the order of your documents so that the document to have the lowest page number is at the top of the stack and the document to have the highest page number is at the bottom of the stack, then enter the lowest page number in the Beginning Page Number data field and the highest page number in the Ending Page Number data field. Click Print All, then click Print in the Select Printer window. Page numbers will be printed in increasing order starting with the page at the top of your stack until all numbers in the range of numbers from Beginning Page Number to Ending Page Number have been printed.
When you place text in the text field in ezBates, that text (including any spaces you insert before or after the text) is printed at the same height on the page as the page numbers but at the horizontal location you choose for the text. There are seven different choices for the horizontal location of the text field and the page number. If you choose the same horizontal location for the text field as for the page number, the text field and page number will be combined into a single field and the text will be printed in front of the page number at this horizontal location. In order to separate the text from the page numbers, include a space in the text field after the text.
A space is displayed in the
text field as an underscore. Underscores in the text field are printed on your
pages or labels as spaces.

You can print leading zeros in front of page numbers by checking the box for this option. When
you check the Leading Zeros box, ezBates includes leading zeros before the
page number in a number field with the number of digits you specify. The number field has a
minimum of two digits and a maximum of six digits. The default is six degits. If you specify a
number field of six digits, ezBates will print the number 35 as 000035. If you specify a number
field of three digits, ezBates will print the number 35 as 035. You can also print a larger or
smaller number of leading zeros by leaving the Leading Zeros box unchecked and putting the
desired number of leading zeros in the Preceding Text data field.

You can automatically print the word "Page" immediately in front of your page numbers by checking the box
for this option. When you check the box for
this option, ezBates prints the word "Page" immediately in front of your page numbers
and also prints any text you have placed in the
text field at the horizontal location which you have selected
for your text. If you select the same horizontal location for the text field as the number field,
the word "Page" will be printed between the text in the text field and the page numbers.

The Change Font button brings up a dialog box from which you can select the font, font size, and the color in which your text and numbers are to be printed. You can print the text field and page number in any font that is installed on your computer. The text field and page number will be printed in black, Arial, bold, 12 point font unless you click Select Font and choose a different color, font, font style, and/or font size from the pop-up font selection window.
When you change fonts, ezBates automatically adjusts the value in the Vertical Position data field so that your
text field and page number will
be printed at the bottom of the page. If you want your text field and page number to be printed at a different vertical position on the page,
you must change the value in the Vertical Position data field after you have selected your new font.

You can select one of two different paper sizes or one of two different label sizes.
The paper size may either be 8-1/2 by 11 inches or 8-1/2 by 14 inches.
The label size may either be 1/2 by 1-3/4 inches or 1 by 2-5/8 inches.
When you click Print Next or Print All and a label size rather than a paper size is selected, ezBates will open a window displaying a page that replicates the page of labels for the selected label size, except that the labels in the window are numbered. When you click Print in this window, ezBates will print the text in the text field and the number in the Beginning Page Number data field on the label number in the Start Printing At Label Number data field. You may change the label number in this data field by clicking on a label with a different number. If you have clicked Print All, the text field and the range of numbers from Beginning Page Number to Ending Page Number will be printed on the labels row-by-row in consecutive order from Beginning Page Number to Ending Page Number.
When you change from one paper size to another or select a label size rather than a paper size, ezBates may automatically adjust the value
in the Vertical Position data field so that your text field and page number will be printed at the bottom of a page. You can ignore the
value in the Vertical Position data field if you are printing on labels because your
text and page number will always be combined into a single field that is horizontally
and vertically centered on the label. However, if you are printing on pages and you want your number and text to be printed
at a different vertical position on the page than at the bottom, you may need to change the value in the Vertical Position data field after
you have selected your paper size.

When you select a paper size rather than a label size, you can choose one of the following seven horizontal locations on the page to print the page number and/or text field, each of which can be printed at any of the different horizontal locations:
1. Left Edge. The page number and/or text field are printed beginning at the left edge of the page.
2. Left Margin. The page number and/or text field are printed beginning at one inch from the left edge of the page.
3. Mid Left. The page number and/or text field are printed so that they are centered at 2-1/8 inches from the left edge of the page.
4. Center. The page number and/or text field are printed so that they are centered at the middle of the page.
5. Mid Right. The page number and/or text field are printed so that they are centered at 6-3/8 inches from the left edge of the page.
6. Right Margin. The page number and/or text field are printed so that they are right-justified at one inch from the right edge of the page.
7. Right Edge. The page number and/or text field are printed beginning so that they are right-justified at the right edge of the page.
After you have selected a horizontal position print location for your text field and/or for your page numbers, you can increment this position to the left or to the right by clicking - or + in the increment box. Each increment is one-tenth of an inch. When the text and page number are at different locations, the text location and the page number location can be incremented separately.
When you select the same horizontal location for the text field and the page number, the text field and page number will be combined into a single field that will be printed at the chosen location with the text field in front of the page number. If you have selected the print "Page" and/or leading zero options, "Page" and/or leading zeros will be printed between your text and the page number.
When you select a label size rather than a paper size, the text field and page number
will be combined into a single field that will always be horizontally centered on the label
with the text field in front of the page number.
When you select a paper size rather than a label size, you may specify the vertical position from the top of the page at which the text field and page number are to be printed. This vertical position is input in the Vertical Position data field as a distance in inches. Note that if you change the font size, you may need to change the vertical position at which the page number and text field are to be printed in order to keep the page number and text field at the same vertical location relative to the bottom of the page.
When you select a label size rather than a paper size, the text field and page
number will be combined into a single field that will always be vertically centered on the label
with the text field in front of the page number.
