ezBates and ezBates Special Edition are user-friendly, inexpensive Windows software products that replace your Bates Stamp automatic page numbering machine and do much more. (See Reviews and Awards at the bottom.)

ezBates

ezBates quickly and easily prints sequential page numbers on your exhibits or documents with professional-looking results.

Simply stack the pages of your exhibits or documents in your computer's printer, start ezBates, enter the beginning and ending page numbers in the data entry fields on your computer screen, click the Print Next or the Print All button, then click the Print button when the pop-up Printer Selection window appears.

Page numbers will be printed on your exhibits or documents sequentially from your beginning page number to your ending page number at the bottom edge of your pages, right-justified from the right margin, in bold, 12 point, Arial font.

If you want to print your page numbers at a location other than at the right margin, you can choose from six other horizontal position locations beginning at the left edge of the page and ending at the right edge of the page.

After you have selected a horizontal position location, you can increment the print location to the left or to the right from the position you selected by clicking - or + in the increment box. Each increment is one-tenth of an inch.

If you want to print your page numbers at a location higher than the bottom edge of the page, replace the number in the vertical position data entry field with the number of inches from the top of the page to the new location.

Any text that you enter in the text data entry field will be printed at the same vertical position as your page numbers.

You select the horizontal position of your text in the same way that you select the horizontal position of your page numbers. The text can be placed either before, after, or at the same location as the page numbers.

If you select the same horizontal position for your text as for your page numbers, the text will be printed immediately in front of the page numbers.

You have the option of automatically printing the word "Page" immediately in front of your page numbers. If you check the box to select this option, the word "Page" will be printed immediately in front of your page numbers even if you select a different horizontal position for your text than for your page numbers. If you select the same horizontal position for your text and page numbers, the word "Page" will be printed between your text and your page numbers.

You also have the option of printing leading zeros in front of your page numbers. When you check the Leading Zeros box, ezBates includes as many leading zeros in front of the page number as is necessary to provide a number field in the length that you specify. For example, if you place the number 6 in the leading zeros data field, ezBates will print the number 35 as 000035.

The Select Font button brings up a dialog box from which you can change the font, font size, and the color in which your text and numbers are to be printed.

Finally, instead of using the printer that your computer normally uses, the pop-up Select Printer window lets you use any printer that is directly connected to your computer or any printer that is one of your network connections.

If your exhibit or document won't fit in your printer or if you need to correct an exhibit or document that was accidentally misnumbered, you can print the text field and page numbers on standard-sized labels instead of directly on your pages. The labels can be either 1/2" by 1-3/4" or 1" by 2-5/8".

ezBates Special Edition

We also offer another software product, ezBates Special Edition, which has a different set of special features. It is available at ezBates Special Edition 4.01 .

ezBates Special Edition can print sequences of letters as well as sequences of numbers on your documents and exhibits. This is very useful when you want to insert new pages in a document or exhibit with existing page numbers. If you place a page number in the Preceding Text field, that page number will be printed on your documents and exhibits in front of your sequence of letters. For example, if you place the text "Bates_000158-" in the Preceding Text field and the letters "a" and "c" in the Beginning Page Number/Letter and Ending Page Number/Letter data fields, respectively, clicking the Print All button will cause your pages to be printed as follows: "Bates 000158-a," "Bates 000158-b," and "Bates 000158-c."

You can enter text fields to be appended both before and after the sequentially-printed numbers or letters. For example, if you have a three-page document and insert "Exhibit_A,_page_" in the Preceding Text field, the number 1 in the Beginning Page Number/Letter field, the number 3 in the Ending Page Number/Letter field, and the text "_of_3" in the Following Text field, clicking the Print All button will cause your pages to be printed as follows: "Exhibit A, page 1 of 3", "Exhibit A, page 2 of 3", and "Exhibit A, page 3 of 3".

Users with double-sided printers can automatically print text and page numbers at the same horizontal distance from the outside edge of both the front and back of their pages. Locate your text and page number at the same distance from the right edge on odd-numbered pages as from the left edge on even numbered pages, and vice versa. Then, when you print using a double-sided printer, your text and page numbers are at the same distance from the outside edge on the front and back of a page. By adding spaces before the preceding text and after the following text, you can position your text and page numbers at any distance you want from the left or right edge.

You can also print sequences of odd numbers or even numbers in addition to printing numbers in consecutive order.

Whereas ezBates 3.51 always prints labels sequentially across the sheet of labels, ezBates Special Edition 4.01 gives users the choice of printing labels either sequentially across or sequentially down the sheet of labels.

It takes only a few steps to install ezBates 3.51 or ezBates Special Edition 4.01 in the All Programs list on your computer's Start menu. First, license ezBates 3.51 at ezBates 3.51 for the bargain price of $58.95, or license ezBates Special Edition 4.01 at ezBates Special Edition 4.01 for $79.95. Follow the directions to download a .zip file containing the program files and a file folder. Extract the files and file folder from the .zip file to a folder on your computer, then run the extracted program Setup.Exe.

For an additional charge, ezBates 3.51 and ezBates Special Edition 4.01 are available from the same web site on a compact disc. Install the softwware from the compact disc by running the Setup.Exe program on the cd.

You can also try before you buy. Extract the files and folder from the .zip file to a folder on your computer, then run the extracted Setup.Exe program. To uninstall ezBates from your computer, open Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs, select ezBates, and select Change/Remove.
