ezBates is the easy-to-use, inexpensive computer software that replaces your Bates Stamp automatic page numbering machine.

The basic, no-frills version -- ezBates 2.03 -- numbers your exhibits and documents more quickly and easily than a mechanical Bates Stamp with professional-looking results. Just stack your letter or legal-size documents in the printer normally used by your computer, start ezBates, fill in the data fields, click Print Next or Print All, then click Print in the pop-up Select Printer window. That's all there is to it. Your text and page numbers will be printed on your documents in consecutive order at the bottom right margin of each page in bold, 12 point Arial font.

If your exhibit or document won't fit in your printer or if you need to correct an exhibit or document that was accidentally misnumbered, you can print the page numbers and preceding text on standard-sized labels instead of directly on your pages.  The labels can be either 1/2" by 1-3/4" or 1" by 2-5/8".

ezBates Special Edition 3.2 is the advanced version.  It has special features that were added in response to user requests. 

First, whereas ezBates 2.03 only accepts a text field that precedes the page number, ezBates Special Edition 3.2 also accepts a different text field that follows the page number.  For example, if you have a three-page document and insert "Exhibit_A,_page_" in the Preceding Text field, the number 1 in the Beginning Page Number/Letter field, the number 3 in the Ending Page Number/Letter field, and the text "_of_3" in the Following Text field, clicking the Print All button will cause your pages to be printed as follows: "Exhibit A, page 1 of 3", "Exhibit A, page 2 of 3", and "Exhibit A, page 3 of 3".

Second, ezBates Special Edition 3.2 can also print sequences of letters as well as sequences of numbers.  If you place a page number in the Preceding Text field, that page number will be printed on your documents and exhibits in front of your sequence of letters.  For example, if you place the text "Bates_000158-" in the Preceding Text field and the letters "a" and "c" in the Beginning Page Number/Letter and Ending Page Number/Letter data fields, respectively, clicking the Print All button will cause your pages to be printed as follows: "Bates 000158-a," "Bates 000158-b," and "Bates 000158-c."

Third, ezBates Special Edition 3.2 can print sequences of odd numbers or even numbers as an alternative to simply printing numbers in consecutive order. 

Fourth, whereas ezBates 2.03 can print text and page numbers at any location between one-inch margins on the left and right sides of a page, ezBates Special Edition 3.2 can print text and page numbers at any location between the edges of  the page.

Finally, for users with printers that print on both sides of a page, ezBates Special Edition 3.2 can automatically print text and page numbers at the same horizontal distance from the outside edge of both the front and back of the pages.  Locate your text and page number at the same distance from the right edge on odd-numbered pages as from the left edge on even numbered pages, and vice versa.  Then, when you print using a double-sided printer, your text and page numbers are at the same distance from the outside edge on the front and back of a page.  By adding spaces before the preceding text and after the following text, you can position your text and page numbers at any distance you want from the left or right edge.

ezBates Special Edition 3.2 can be licensed for $48.95 at ezBates Special Edition 3.2 . 

Both versions of ezBates give you the option of automatically printing leading zeros in front of page numbers.  Simply click the Insert Leading Zeros check box to activate this option.

Both versions give you the option of replacing the bold, 12 point Arial font with any other font installed on your computer.   Click Select Font.  A font selection window will appear that allows you to choose a different font, font style, and/or font size.

You can change the number of inches from the top of the page where the text and page number/letter are printed by inserting a different value in the Vertical Position data field.

You can also change the horizontal position on the page where the text and page number/letter are printed.   Because you can include spaces in the text field, you have complete control over the horizontal position as well as the vertical position at which you print the text and page number/letter on each page.

Finally, instead of using the printer that your computer normally uses, the pop-up Select Printer window lets you use any printer that is directly connected to your computer or any printer that is one of your network connections.

It takes only a few steps to install ezBates 2.03 or ezBates Special Edition 3.2 in the All Programs list on your computer's Start menu.  First, license ezBates 2.03 at ezBates 2.03 for the bargain price of $34.95, or license ezBates Special Edition 3.2 at ezBates Special Edition 3.2 for $48.95.   Follow the directions to download a .zip file containing the program files and a file folder.  Extract the files and file folder from the .zip file to a folder on your computer, then run the extracted program Setup.Exe.

For an additional charge, ezBates 2.03 and ezBates Special Edition 3.2 are available from the same web site on a compact disc.  Install ezBates from the compact disc by running the Setup.Exe program on the cd.

To uninstall ezBates from your computer, open Control Panel, open Add or Remove Programs, select ezBates, and select Change/Remove.
